World-class performances from Ben Dijkstra and Olivia Mathias ensured Great Britain topped the podium at the ETU Triathlon European Junior Cup last weekend (August 8/9).
Britain’s Bronwen Owen claimed a silver medal behind Mathias in the junior women’s race, the champion putting in a solid all-round performance to cross the line 12 seconds clear in 42:13.
Another noteworthy performance came from Sophie Alden, the recent British Elite Junior Triathlon champion finishing 6th following a stellar performance in the 40 degree heat.
Dijkstra continued his dominance by finishing in 37:31 to take a convincing win over Emil Deleuran Hansen (DEN) in 37:41.
As in the usual format of the Hungarian Cup race, athlete’s progressed through semi-final races on Saturday with the aim of making Sunday’s final.
Further athletes making it through to the men’s final were Jack Willis, Alex Chantler-Mayne and James Teagle, with Elizabeth Hood and Ffion-Haf Harrett qualifying for the women.
A number of British Senior’s took to the course on Sunday for the Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup Event. Gordon Benson was Britain’s top performer, clocking 54:50 to finish 9th.
