With event season officially underway after a fantastic day at our first Welsh National Championship race of 2023 - Harlech Duathlon – we wanted to share some information and a sneak peek at our medals for the 2023 season.

One of our core values here at Welsh Triathlon is sustainability and being actively environmentally conscious. We are committed to making changes to our own operation, and working with all our partners including members, clubs and event organisers to help them to do the same. We have taken various steps over the last couple of years to increase the sustainability and reduce the environmental impact of all our triathlon activity and events. These steps include moving to electronic membership cards to reduce plastic waste, developing online coach education resources to massively reduce paper usage, and finally working with companies to produce eco-friendly medals for the 2022/2023 event seasons.

Our Welsh National Championship medals for 2022/2023 are made from wood, an eco-friendly alternative to plastic medals. The ribbons are also sustainable, made from recycled materials and using environmentally friendly ink. An image of our Welsh National Championship 2023 medal can be found below.

Our Super Series 2023 medals have been produced by a company with a sustainable ethos. They use old medals and recycle the metal to make new ones. Therefore, our 2023 Super Series medals are made from mostly recycled metal. This is a great way for Welsh Triathlon to dispose of old medals and be environmentally conscious in the production of new editions. We hope that our members can see the value of using eco-friendly companies and materials in the production of our new medals. This is an exciting step for Welsh Triathlon and our operation going forward.
