Sean Conway is no newbie when it comes to crazy challenges. The 496 Challenge, triathlon around Wales, swimming the length of Britain, London to Paris in 24 hours to name a few. Last year, Sean set himself the challenge to complete 102 consecutive Iron distance triathlons and beat the record. Sadly this challenge was cut short due to Sean coming off of his bike and suffering an ankle injury on day 7. He explains how he “really struggled with this injury and the long term impact on [his] athleticism”. However, this only increased Sean’s drive and motivation. And after some hard work and serious training, this year Sean is taking on the challenge once again.

So, on Monday the 10th of April Sean completed his first day of Iron distance triathlon and despite hitting some rough patches of weather has successfully done one every day since. He is currently on day 18 and when asked for a quote Sean said “things are going well so far and each day is different in terms of how I am feeling (and what I want to eat!). I'm continuing to take each day as it comes and will push on. I'm extremely grateful for all the support I am getting both on the course and online - it gives me a great boost”. You can keep up with Sean’s progress on his social media channels and he updates them regularly. Sean is also advertising the opportunity for people to join him in a swim, bike or run session during his journey. He stresses the fact that this is not an organised event, there is no support, first aid, or help and people should join at their own risk. If you want to join Sean in part of his challenge, you can check out his website for an exact location of where Sean is and also planned routes for that day.

This time Sean is raising money for and being supported by The True Venture Foundation. This foundation was started by Ryan Morrison, a level 1 triathlon coach and triathlete himself, chair of the local swim club, and any other role he can take on to help make a change. Ryan saw first-hand the opportunity to improve support for young athletes in North Wales and decided to do something about it. Therefore, he set up The True Venture Foundation to support clubs to attract and retain children in sport and improve opportunities for children and young people from North Wales who want to compete competitively. The True Venture Foundation is managed in partnership with Community Foundation Wales, a credible charity with status and the ability to help True Venture to achieve it’s goals. During the attempt True Venture will be working with local junior clubs to get them involved in the challenge and make it a real community event.

As well as joining Sean on his journey, you can also support him and help raise money for The True Venture Foundation. The donation link and other crowdfunding options can be found on Sean’s website, linked below.
