Under the Welsh Sun: Ironman Wales 2023 Delivers Some Incredible Performances in Glorious Weather

Published:

Tenby hosted its 11th Ironman Wales last weekend which was also the first time Ironman had been our Long Distance National Championship!

The crowds were out in force as they lined the Ironman Wales course waiting for the Welsh Anthem to play before the race start. BUT..... before the race kicked off athletes and spectators were treated to a display from the Red Devils Army Parachute display team, who flew through the sky with red smoke and landing in the Sea , where the athletes would soon be taking on the 2.4 mile swim.

It was a dry hot day for the event and the athletes began the first stage of the race on the North Beach in Tenby for a 2.4mile swim. Following this was a 112 mile bike ride through Pembrokeshire Coast national park. Once the cycle is completed it is then onto the last phase of the race, a four loop 26.2 mile run through Tenby with athletes finishing on the Esplanade near South beach.

There were some fantastic performances from Welsh Triathlon members including in the Junior category (age 17-19) Harry Malone finishing in 14hours 49 minutes! The first female to cross the line in our senior category was Princess Maddison Shaddick with Emily Marchant three minutes behind.
