AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Leeds routes announced and entries reopened

Published:

British Triathlon have reopened entries for the sprint, standard and GO TRI races and announced the routes for all races taking place over the weekend of 5-6 June 2021.

For the first time in the event’s history, all participants will experience crossing the same finish as each race across the weekend starts in Waterloo Lake and makes its way to the finish line at Mansion House.

Entries are now open for the event which will host open races as well as be a qualifier for the Great Britain Age-Group Team and stage the British Standard Distance Championships and Yorkshire Championships, providing a great opportunity to push yourself against other top age group athletes or simply get back to swim, bike, run in 2021.

With a packed weekend of racing, Roundhay Park will play host to all participants from first-timers to elites as all races start and finish within the park. Staging the event solely in and around the park means that the organisers are able to create a Covid-19 Secure event perimeter with enhanced hygiene measures and social distancing in place.

One of Europe’s largest city parks, Roundhay has a rich history within triathlon having been the start for all races since the event moved to Leeds in 2016.

The various routes will take participants around the park and past many of it’s iconic landmarks, including the Upper Lake and it’s fountain, the Victorian Shelter and Barrans Fountain before reaching the finish line underneath the grade II listed Mansion House.

Following on from last year, Leeds Cares, under its new name Leeds Hospital Charity, will once again be the official charity partner of the event.

Leeds Hospital Charity support NHS staff to deliver the best care for over a million patients and their families each year at eight hospitals in the city and help fund items and services over and above what the NHS can.

The AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds Virtual Challenge in 2020 saw participants raise over £10,000 for the charity, with title partner AJ Bell donating a further £10,000 on top.

With entries now open, AJ Bell 2021 World Triathlon Leeds provides the opportunity to take part in a stunning landscape that culminates in the same finish area for all, from GO TRI to World Triathlon Para Series and World Triathlon Championship Series athletes.
