Find out more about racing opportunities for young people across Britain
Triathlon provides opportunities for everyone to take part in multi-sport events made up of swimming, biking and running. For any junior looking to compete in triathlon the Junior Race Series is the perfect opportunity. The series of races, for children aged 9 to 17, is organised by the 10 Triathlon England regions ensuring the events are local and accessible for all.
The focus of the Junior Regional Race Series is the individual competition that consists of an individual league in each region; to be considered for the league you must be a Home Nation member (see below for more details). The league consists of competing in a series of races to count in the overall season’s individual regional standings. Some regions also have a club league where individual scores count towards a club’s total. FAQ's
Why do I need to have a British Triathlon Home Nation Junior Membership?
To compete in a regional junior race series, you must be a Home Nation (English, Scottish or Welsh) junior member. This enables you to be counted for the league standings, to be considered for end of season awards and possible selection for the regional team at the Inter-Regional Championship.
As a part of your junior membership you must be registered for the region for the series in which you want to race. Therefore, if you live in the South East but want to race in the London Junior Race Series your membership must be for London. Junior membership gives you personal insurance cover and third-party liability that covers you for when you are racing or training plus you benefit from other membership benefits. Membership and the benefits can be viewed on the link below. Non-members can still take part in all races but will not count in any individual rankings and will not have the same cover when racing or training.
Under what criteria are the Junior Regional Series races been selected?
All Regional Junior Race Series coordinators will only select races that are permitted by Triathlon England; an event permit ensures the event has met a certain number of conditions including safety, adopting British Triathlon competition rules and have the appropriate levels of insurances in place. For further details on regional races and the local rules surrounding these please visit the the appropriate regional Junior Series page.
Are the Regional Junior Series used for Inter-Regional Championships selection?
The Inter-Regional Championship normally take place in September each year as a part of the Under 20’s Festival. The Inter-Regional Championship is an open water triathlon made up of regional teams consisting of three TriStar 2s and three TriStar 3s both female and male racing against each other to determine individual and regional team winners. Most Regional Junior Race Series are used as a part of the selection process for the region’s Inter-Regional Championship Team; this however varies depending on region so please check selection criteria details on each regional page. Further details can be found on the Under 20’s Festival website page.
