The Triathlon England Middle Distance Championships hotted up the middle distance at IronBourne Long Distance Triathlon where age group athletes competed for the honour of becoming national champion.
Twenty national champions were crowned over the middle distance in Eastbourne with many more winning medals in their age group as over 400 athletes completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike course and 13.1-mile run along the coast.
Pro triathlete Sam Wade was the quickest athlete overall to take the race win and add the English national title for the male 30-34 age group to his list of achievements, which also includes British titles.
The honour of being the fastest female went to 20-24 age group athlete Abi Bedwell who also picked up the national title for her age group in the process. Joe Morrow was the winner in the male 20-24 age category, while Jennifer Fernando is the new female 30-34 national champion.
Dean Kirkham and Kevin Bexley both successfully defended their middle distance titles in their respective age groups with Kirkham claiming gold in the male 45-49 age group and Bexley in the 55-59 age band.
Emma Bexson was the female winner in the 45-49 category and Jo Bednall was victorious in the 55-59 age group. Kirsty Shannon and Sean Nicolle are the new national champions in the 50-54 age groups.
Nicola Lilley added the English middle distance title to the British standard distance title she won in Leeds earlier this year in the female 40-44 age group with Graham Lane securing gold in the same age band but in the male category.
Golds in the 25-29 age group were won by Isabel Davis and Patrick Elwood, while the honour of becoming national champion in the 35-39 age groups went to Rachel Coe-Brien and Tom Davey.
Janet Shepherd and Dean Moy became national champions in the 60-64 age group, with Isobel Bolland (female U20) and Ray Roberts (male 65-69) also claiming gold in their respective age group.
There are English National Championships in sprint distance triathlon, club relays and standard distance triathlon still to come in 2022.
