Star Studded Royal Windsor Triathlon

Over 2,500 triathletes descend on Windsor for the 29th edition of a star studded Royal Windsor Triathlon.

Taking place in the grounds of Windsor Castle, the Royal Windsor Triathlon is one of the most iconic triathlons in the UK. Awarded the British Triathlon Event of the Year on multiple occasions, 2019 saw sporting heroes Tanni Grey-Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson take part alongside first timers and elites for this swim, bike and run on the Castle grounds.

Previous winners of this highly anticipated event include Spencer Smith, Stuart Hayes, Richard Stannard and two-time World Champion duathlete Emma Pallant, who claimed her fourth consecutive win at the event in a time of 02:07:41. This year’s event was competed over two distances; Sprint (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) and Olympic, including the elite sub 2-hour 30 wave (1,500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run). Competitors finished their race with a stunning run route taking them past Windsor Castle, before heading out onto the spectacular Long Walk.

Royal Windsor Triathlon is a popular event with spectators due to the unique opportunity of watching family and friends compete in this iconic setting. Spectators were in for more than they expected this year however, as the event hosted 11-time gold medal winning Paralympian, Tanni Grey-Thompson and rugby World Cup winner, Jonny Wilkinson. Both Tanni and Jonny took part in the Olympic Relay where, in partnership with No1 Living, Jonny was joined by competition winners Max Hamilton and Kiera King to complete the swim and bike legs of the relay.

Nick Rusling, CEO Human Race, said:

“Now in its 29th year, the Royal Windsor Triathlon is such an iconic event. From first timers right up to the elites; participants and spectators alike cheer one another on along the Royal route, making it a truly remarkable date in the triathlon calendar.”
