Workshop entry is now open for Open Water Coaching and Strength and Conditioning for Triathlon Coaches within the region.

Open Water Coaching

The Open Water Coaching workshop is aimed primarily at coaches who currently deliver or would like to deliver coached open water sessions.

Overview

The one-day workshop has a mix of theory and practical designed to support the development of open water coaching knowledge and ability. There is also an opportunity to gain practical experience through coaching a group of open water swimmers.

Workshop Content Includes

  • What types of activities can go into an open water session and how to integrate these into a session plan.
  • The health and safety of open water coaching and what to look for in a venue when delivering open water sessions.
  • Coaching skills for effective open water session delivery.
  • How to effectively manage a safety team.

Additionally learners will also have access to an online module on the Learning Hub with further resources.

Pre-requisites

  • Level 1 Triathlon Coach.   Level 1 coaches will only be qualified to deliver the sessions alongside a Level 2 or Level 3 Coach. 
  • Level 2 or Trainee L2 coach (enrolled on a current coaching course).  Trainee Level 2 coaches will only be insured to deliver the sessions independently on successful completion of their Level 2 qualification. 
  • Level 3 Triathlon Coach
  • Up to date Home Nation’s membership

Strength & Conditioning for Triathlon Coaches

This one day workshop has been developed in conjunction with English Institute of Sport practitioner’s Stephen Breisner and Ian Pyper who are the lead Strength & Conditioning coaches for the Great Britain Triathlon Team.

Overview

This one-day workshop is a mix of classroom and practical sessions. Upon completion of the workshop coaches will be able to prepare, deliver and review safe and effective strength and conditioning (S&C) sessions within a non-weighted (body weight only exercises) environment. This workshop will not extend a coaches remit to allow them to coach using weighted Olympic style lifting exercises and equipment.

Workshop content includes:

  • S&C Programing Principles.
  • Effective preparation and warm up.
  • Individual needs analysis.
  • Core, upper and lower body exercises and how to coach these effectively.

Additionally, learners will also have access to an online resource bank with further technical information and over 40 conditioning videos to support learning and understanding of strength and conditioning in triathlon

Pre-requisites

  • Level 1 Triathlon Coach.   Level 1 coaches will only be qualified as an Assistant Coach
  • Level 2 or Trainee L2 coach (enrolled on a current coaching course).  Trainee Level 2 coaches will only be insured to deliver the sessions independently on successful completion of their Level 2 qualification. 
  • Level 3 Triathlon Coach
  • Up to date Home Nation’s membership
