Derbyshire Triathlon Academy

Published:

The launch took place this weekend of the Derbyshire Triathlon Academy in Derby.

The Academy has been set up by BTF Level 3 Coaches Stephen Greene & Hilary Johnson with the aim of enhancing and building on skills learnt in the clubs in Derbyshire/ East Midlands and training with those of a similar high standard. The Academy is open to 12 to 16 years, who wish to take their training to the next level. The Academy, whilst training as a group, will put each athlete at the centre of the programme and will look to develop all those involved as individuals looking at their relative strengths and development areas.

Commenting Stephen Greene said ‘the response so far has been fantastic with over 20 juniors signed up already and we have only just delivered our first full day of training. All those attending said they really enjoyed the session, learnt lots and more over had lots of input into the future growth of the Academy’.

The initial venue was Allestree Woodlands School in Derby, which having recently played host to the ‘Brownlee Foundation’ training day, provided a great base to allow both in/ out doors depending on the weather, with everyone mastering rollers this weekend!

Hilary Johnson said ‘the plan is to run sessions monthly at different venues around Derbyshire trying to find the best and most varied training facilities we can. We will running different sessions from closed motor racing circuits and key race venues through to the Velodrone and off road run/ cyclo cross courses. We are also linking the training days to key East Midlands series races to ensure all athletes are fully prepared and to maximise their race potential’.

The next session will be at Woodlands School, Derby on Sunday 14th January and anyone who is interested should either visit the Derbyshire Triathlon Academy Facebook page or contact:

Steve Greene : stephengreene15@btinternet.com

Hilary Johnson : hilary.johnson@live.co.uk

Interested athletes must be able to swim 100 m in 2.15 mins and run 800m in 3.30 mins.

The Academy is also looking to help other coaches develop their skills and so if you are a coach and would like to work with juniors this is an ideal opportunity to be involved and add to your CPD.
