Happy New Year

Published:

Welcome to 2017! Now the mince pies have been eaten and the memory of another Christmas starts to fade, we can look forward to a great year of racing in 2017!

With the duathlon season in full swing and The start of the triathlon season only 4 months away, for some it is like they have we never been away… for me however with the addition of almost 4kg over the month of December, due entirely to a poor diet, too much alcohol and a relaxed attitude to exercise means that I will be starting 2017 with resolve to lose the additional weight and focus in on the race season ahead.

For many of us, this sport of ours will require sacrifice and dedication in order for us to achieve our personal best, be this a podium placing or if you are like me, just finishing the race in one piece is reward enough, but whatever your ambition in 2017, when you are racing please remember to say thank you to a volunteer on your way around and perhaps smile at the race referee (we are human…) but above all be safe when your racing.

In 2017, we want to help support you the best way we can, if you aspire to coach then be aware that we have a Level 1 Course which will take place at Charnwood College in Loughborough over the following dates;

  • Saturday 18th March
  • Sunday 19th March
  • Sunday 23rd April

Places are limited, so get I tough if you are interested.

Also, there are several Local Technical Official (LTO) courses available. This is the first step on the British Triathlon officiating pathway, so if you fancy becoming a Technical Official, then get in touch.

Within the region, we are proud to support and promote Skills School. Skills School aim is to create a fun, creative and inspiring skill learning process. For coaches the Skills School sessions offer excellent professional development.

The next three sessions are;

  • 4th February - Ashfield School, Kirkby-in-Ashfield
  • 5th February - Bingham Leisure Centre
  • 12th February - Uppingham School Sports Centre

For more information, just email us and we will be happy to send more information and help in any way we can.

Finally, I hope that you will all have by now seen the new campaign which aims to get more of amazing individuals to join our community, to make it even better. As you know, if you’re already a member, by joining the TE family and becoming a home nation member for 2017, you receive amazing rewards. On behalf of the East Midlands Committee let me wish you all happy and prosperous New Year – make 2017 the year that you achieve, your personal best.
