IRC Success for the East Midlands

Published:

This year the IRC’s took place locally at Mallory Park as part of the Under 20’s Festival. Mallory Park can be very cold and windy, but on Bank Holiday Monday the weather was quite ‘continental’.

The youth and juniors were first up and this was their last race as part of the British Super Series.

We had two local athletes winning their classes in the British Super Series, Barclay Izzard for the junior men and Elsbeth Grant winning the female youth class.

Both of these athletes have previously represented the East Midlands in the IRC’s.

The IRC’s kicked off at midday with the last race at 2.30pm. It was tough day for the youngsters - a non wetsuit swim and a technical bike course; as well as racing in the heat of the day.

However, they all rose to the challenge and the East Midlands was again on the podium , 3rd place overall in the Inter Regional Championships for 2017.

There was some fantastic racing from all the athletes and it was great to see the reserves there to cheer the team on.

Thomas Dixon was placed 3rd in Tristar 2 in the individual event, a fantastic result.

Lizzy Edge just missed out on a podium spot in a tightly fought race coming 4th in Tristar 3.

We would like to thank 3T for sponsoring our athletes who looked really smart in their t-shirts and hoodies.

Again, a huge well done to all the athletes and good luck for the remaining races in the East Midlands Triathlon race series.
