The Severn Centre opened in September 2004 and is a multi-purpose sports and community centre in Highley, the largest village in South Shropshire.
It provides high-quality community, leisure, health and life-long learning facilities for the people of Highley and its surrounding areas. The £3.5 million project was developed as a multi agency partnership following extensive research and consultation.
The Severn Centre is a community focused, 'not-for-profit' organisation. The money we make from memberships and the bookings of our sports facilities and meeting and conference rooms is ploughed back into the centre, meaning there are no shareholders and the money goes towards the running of the centre and the facilities we offer to you.
Our gym, group fitness classes and sports facilities and swimming pool are very popular with local residents; a Severn Centre membership costs less than £1 a day. But it's not all about the gym; we are also home to childcare services, a library.

Overview
In association with the Severn Centre in Highley, Shropshire, The Bridgnorth and Severn Centre Triathlon Club (BASC Tri) is now promoting its annual sprint triathlon, which will take place on the 14th May 2017. Now in its fifth year the Highley Sprint Triathlon, known as the ‘Miners’ TRIal’, is fast establishing itself as one of the most rewarding and scenic events in the West Midlands.
The event attracts people of all abilities, from novices trying the sport for the first time, to seasoned ‘Ironman’ triathletes. BASCTri club members will be there to offer their support. Based at the Severn Centre in Highley, the event involves a 400m swim in one of the few remaining heated outdoor pools in the West Midlands. An 18km bike leg that takes in some stunning Shropshire scenery follows the swim. The final leg is an off-road 5km run, descending into the beautiful Severn Valley Country Park. The route then heads along the bank of the River Severn and crosses the Historic Severn Valley Railway.
