Training Information

We are excited to announce that we have developed a bespoke safeguarding course specifically to support you, our Technical and Motorcycle officials which will further enhance our ambition to have a wholly safeguarded sport in the UK. Having successfully introduced mandatory safeguarding training within our coaching community we want to ensure all our volunteers receive the right training to carry out their roles.

Safeguarding is the process of protecting children and adults from harm by supplying a safe space in which they can access swim, bike, run. As part of our work to increase the understanding of all British Triathlon Technical Officials we require all Technical Officials to attend a safeguarding training session by 31 May 2024.

Ensuring all Technical Officials are appropriately trained in safeguarding will ensure all Technical Officials have the confidence to deliver safeguarding best practice and have the knowledge to protect themselves. Additionally, the training will ensure there is a fully safeguarded Technical Official workforce which will provide participants with the assurance that a support network is in place should they ever need it.

The learning outcomes of the training are.

  1. Recognise a safeguarding concern.
  2. Know how to respond to a safeguarding concern.
  3. Understand how to record a safeguarding concern.
  4. Know how to refer a safeguarding concern.

This course is a two-hour interactive virtual workshop, developed by British Triathlon and is the right and relevant training for Technical Officials.

The training will be delivered via Zoom. You will be sent a Zoom link via email prior to the training starting. Please ensure the email address on your booking form is correct and up to date and that you check your spam inbox to ensure you receive the joining instructions. You do not need to print off anything before the course but may need to write notes as you go along. Post course materials and a certificate will be provided after the training.

The training will be valid for three years, after which a renewal will be needed to revalidate the qualification. Newly recruited Technical Officials will have to complete the safeguarding training as part of their qualification.

Any Technical Officials who have not completed the training by 31 May 2024, will be marked as an “inactive” Official until they fulfil this requirement. Those Technical Officials will not be sanctioned to perform officiating duties until the safeguarding training requirement is met.
