London Region AGM: Final Nominations List

Please find below the final nominations for the London Region Committee for 2014. All Triathlon England members living in London together with members of all triathlon clubs affiliated to the London Region are eligible to attend and vote. If approved, voting using voting slips will be used where necessary. Please bring a pen or pencil. There is no provision in the constitution for proxy votes.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22nd October 2013, starting at 7 p.m.

The constitution states that nominations for the committee must be submitted before the General Meeting.  No nomination for coaching officer has been received so the new committee, once elected may wish to co-opt a suitable member.

3. Proposed changes to the constitution – to debate and if considered appropriate adopt the following (a simple majority is required to adopt a change)
i)  the ability to call an extraordinary general meeting currently an EGM can be called by the committee or forced by the dissolution of the committee by the Triathlon England Executive Board (triggering the election of a new committee) proposed additional clause. An extraordinary general meeting may also be called at the written request of 5% of the Triathlon England (London) members.
 
ii) to replace the existing clause
“All Triathlon England members and members of registered triathlon clubs in London have the right to vote at the AGM”.  
With the clause
“All Triathlon England members with a London qualification and all members of triathlon clubs affiliated to the London Region, in both cases having attained the age of 18 years are eligible to vote at general meetings. If adopted this would mean those not old enough to enter an Ironman event would not be eligible to vote.  
n.b. Actual age on the date of the meeting, not TE/BTF race agegroup.
 
iii) replace all references in the constitution (including all appendices) to the job title  “Triathlon London Region Development Officer”  with “(Triathlon London) Regional Manager”
 
iv) electing the committee members at AGM or EGM
a) to allow the members at a general meeting to indicate (with a show of hands) a preference for the election of candidates for the committee to be conducted using ballot papers rather than a show of hands.
 
v) The quorum required for business to be agreed at Regional Committee meetings will be 50% of the Executive Board Officers of the Committee
 
4. Election of the committee for 2014
 
The following nominations have been received so far and a poll will be conducted at the meeting where there is more than one candidate for a roll. Subject to resolution 3(iv) above being adopted ballot papers will be distributed to eligible members  No proxy votes are allowed under the constitution. Candidates may cast a vote for themselves.

I have served on the regional committee for 10 years, the last 4 years as Deputy Chair. I feel I have a lot to offer the London Region with my experience in triathlon.I have served for 4 years on the Board of Directors for Triathlon England. I have been involved in many interview processes for Triathlon England interviewing applicants for the BTF Board of Directors, Regional programme mangers and regional coaches, and am involved in appraisal processes.I have been the London representative on the Triathlon England Council since its inception 8 years ago, and the changes that have been made for London, cannot be put in 200 words.I was Chair of Crystal Palace Triathletes for 9 years. I am race Director for Crystal Palace Triathlon and Trinity Triathlon, and am looking at creating more events in London.I am a Triathlon England race referee, and an ITU Continental Technical Official, and represent the ITU/ETU as a Technical Delegate in Europe.  I have lost count of the amount of sprint, standard and middle distance triathlons I have completed, but know that I have completed 8 Ironman events. I have been a Clydesdale Triathlon World Champion twice and runner up twice in the last 11 years.

For the past two seasons I have been involved in the London Region Junior series and training squad working in close collaboration with two other committee members, plus race organisers and parents.  
I have worked in the last seven years for the British Marine Federation, a national trade body with over 1500 members.  This has given me a thorough grounding in the working of committees as I have had to deal with committee membership appointments, procedures, budgets and “politics”.  Currently I report to two committees of members, made up of Director level and above contacts to devise strategies, allocate resource and develop the export program for the membership.  I chair a global working group made up of my counterparts from overseas marine industry associations, and since 2007 I have represented the leisure marine industry on a government working group.  I have learned that satisfaction in life comes from working with positive people, using a diplomatic consensus building approach towards measurable achievable goals.

Founder and current chairman of London Fields Triathlon Club, now four years old with over 200 participants, including U18's wing. Co-founder of Capital Tri swimming & Tri club. Current co-opted member of London Region committee (online). Beyond triathlon I have experience sitting on committee of North East London Cricket League (NELCL), guiding it from near extinction to current thriving status. I work in media and have been used by BBC/LBC/Smooth/Absolute Radio to communicate info and message of triathlon in recent years, and can bring these contacts and connections with me.

London Fields Triathlon Club 
I did my first triathlon at London in 2009, and was briefly a member of Windrush Triathlon Club when they formed. I moved away from London, but since returning in 2011 have been an active member of London Fields Triathlon Club. Since joining LFTC I have been a big supporter of the club at events, taken part in a few events and have trained as a Level 1 coach, and now help with the swim sessions. This year I have swum over 30 miles in open water, meaning I can pass on some first hand tips to those in the club.

I have been involved in the sport for 30 years. 
I have been a Director and Treasurer of British Triathlon. 
I was involved in setting up the London Region, and was the first Treasurer. 
I set up Hillingdon Triathletes, being one of the first 4 members (now 228, and 2010 club of the year), and remain treasurer to this day. 
I supported triathlon in many other ways, training referees (now officials), been Regional Sanctioning Officer, served on Rules and Technical Committee.

Been in sport for 25 years.  Met Tri Club where I was Chair for some time.
Been chair, vice Chair and temporary secretary on and off for London for 15 years - presently 4 special years as Chair. Director of Events, , Rules and Technical for Triathlon England for 2+ years,   Chaired National R&T subcommittee when I set up structure of Regional Referees, now Regional Officials Coordinator - am expert to assist ROC in that area.
TOs RESPONSIBILITIES - been on many BTA, BTF and TE R&T committees –currently contributed to rule amendments, confronting unacceptable rules which I recently have been revoked.
Tutored first NTO course - currently training all Officials levels – tutored LTO and RTO courses this year.
Currently ROC and London Representative on The TE R&T Subcommittee. I set up support systems, newsletters with support from TO Andrzej assisted by Peter with sharing experience and knowledge second to none.
Instigated contact with the South East and Midlands giving opportunities for officials to gain experience and qualification. 
Been Event Director at many  events including Windsor -  in 2013 The London Youth Games – expert on SAGs, Road closures, Risk assessments and element of events required for the position of TO. 
Examined all Race reports in 2013 and gave support, advice and assistance where needed.
I am an expert on ITU, BTF and WTU rules having been senior Technical Delegate leading the teams internationally, The London Triathlon, Blenheim and - Abu Dhabi for many more. 
What the TO position requires - I have all knowledge and experience essential to the post.

I have been the senior league co-ordinator for the past few years and seek re-election to continue in this role. I am heavily involved in triathlon both as a participant and at ful-on tri where I am an active coach, coaching administrator and committee member. I believe that the League is a real asset to the London Region and would like it to continue both as a drive for performance through the Senior Series as well encouraging broader participation through the Mob Match Series.

Finance Operations Manager at Fast Track 100 Company; aiming to realise the full potential of the Senior League, as both a first step to novice triathletes and a local source of healthy competition for experienced triathletes, and work with both clubs and commercial enterprise to provide affordable races within the region. Crystal Palace triathletes
I have been on the Regional committee for four years, since being asked after setting up Crystal palace Junior Section. My time has been spent looking after the junior side of things and am happy to stand again to continue to take forward the initiatives that I have set up to strengthen the Regions junior triathlon scene.. 
In the four years I have been in post I have seen the juniors evolve:
The Series has improved year on year with the quality of races improving all the time and the increase in participation amongst the TriStarts to Youths (8-16) 
Organised the Inter Regional Competition team, to get them prepared for this event and build a London Team Spirit. 
Created and developed a London Region Training Squad so that committed juniors can train together several times during the year. 
Working to build up 17 to 19 year old involvement in the sport to retain the youngsters in Sport and encourage them to continue with Sport into adulthood 
Built up a team to manage the London Juniors so that all the work that goes in is sustainable for the future juniors. 
Built strong bonds between the junior clubs of London and the Regions Academy 
Liaised with clubs, RPM’s, parents, where interest has presented itself to start a new junior club/section 
Kept active as a coach in the club environment and Regionally

London Region Club: The Stragglers
- I've written on a freelance basis for British Triathlon, Athletics Weekly and the Guardian's Running blog.
- I graduated last summer from Loughborough University, where I studied sport and exercise science as a mature student.
- I work for an athlete management company in central London looking after a team of East African runners.
- In my spare time I work with 2 pro triathletes helping them find new sponsors, and provide PR/media support to a new triathlon team launching in time for next season.
- I'm also a freelance sports photographer and was an accredited photographer at the recent WTS London Grand Final.
- I follow triathlon very closely and have a good range of contacts across the sport. 
- Finally, I'm a competitive runner and a keen cyclist. I'm also a rubbish swimmer, and hence only an aspiring triathlete, although doing a half-Ironman is a long-held ambition!

Claudio spent years in the "old school" energy and finance space with some of the biggest names in energy trading, investment banking and management consulting.  However, when the financial crisis hit, he pronto pressed "Esc" button for the exit and embraced new style entrepreneurship.
Claudio brings a fresh spirit while growing startup companies and flourishing existing business portfolios. Armed with courage, creativity and analytical rigor, Claudio is a helping brain and hand for assembling revolutionary winning business cases, connecting to new partners and industry networks, implementing ideas to create a better meaningful future for worldwide communities.
Claudio speaks 6 languages and has lived multiculturally for the past 16 years.  In his teens, he has been racing at regional and national level in middle-distance running and Nordic skiing. His first triathlon was a super sprint at the Virgin London triathlon in July 2013, where he finished 13th male overall, 4th in his age group.
The true loves of his life are his adorable twins and wife, endurance sports and the perfect bowl of pasta. In no particular order.

Quorum
Prior to the AGM held in November 2011, the quorum was members of 25% of clubs in the London Region.  A change to “members of eight clubs” was adopted following a unanimous vote in favour at the 2011 AGM.
