Published:

Following the regional nominations and awards process, the national winners have been named at the 2022 HUUB Triathlon England Awards in 12 categories.

Reflecting the time and commitment put in throughout the triathlon community in 2021, the awards took place on Friday night, 11 March, and were hosted by podcaster and presenter Kate Mason alongside Triathlon Team Leader for Team England at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Jonathon Riall.

A massive congratulations to the London Region winners that have gone on to be awarded the national awards.

Junior Coach of the Year

Mark Klein is head junior coach at Optima Racing Team in London and has grown the junior section in his years leading. In and out of lockdown his enthusiasm and commitment continued to engage juniors and their families in swim, bike, run.

When accepting the award Mark commented; "I am delighted to receive this award and it is testament to all the hard work and commitment from fellow coaches, parents and athletes at the club.

We have undertaken some really fun sessions and events, not only as a team but also in collaboration with other triathlon and athletics clubs. We want to give kids as many opportunities to participate, improve and enjoy themselves as possible and this will only continue to improve in the future"

Club of the Year

Hillingdon Triathletes in London has seen 88 new members join in the last year, with membership numbers now highest of their 25 year history. They organised 30 events last year for athletes of all levels and supported local charities through their events.

On being awarded the Club of the Year, Hillingdon Triathletes Chair, Jacqui Burke said "Within 6 weeks of taking over the  role as Chair in 2020, I had to content with Covid.

Myself, the committee and coaches worked hard to get us back on track with our training sessions and back to racing, all within the government and BTF guidelines.

I am delighted with the increase in membership, majority though word of mouth and also the general public seeing us training out in the fields or at our weekly swimming sessions at Uxbridge pool.

I look forward to seeing what 2022 has in stored for the club and am so proud to be part of the team."

As a region we are really proud that Mark's and Hillingdon Triathletes hard work, enthusiasm and committment to their triathletes and triathlon has been recognised nationally. Great work and huge "thank-you" from the Region.
