Notice of Postponement of Triathlon England’s General Meeting: Saturday, 1 February 2014

Published:

The Triathlon England Management Board has decided to postpone the upcoming General Meeting which was due to be held this Saturday at Loughborough, Leicestershire. This meeting was scheduled in order to discuss and vote on the Resolutions which were not ratified because not enough time had been allowed for their circulation before the Annual General Meeting last November.

The view has been expressed that the procedure for notification of the General Meeting on 1 February remains open to question.  Although it is not clear that the notice procedure was invalid we are sensitive to the views of others. The Triathlon England Management Board would not want there either to be any uncertainty in giving members the opportunity to contribute or to doubt the effectiveness of the Resolutions should they be passed by the required majority at a General Meeting.

It has been decided to postpone the General Meeting scheduled for next Saturday, 1 February 2014.

As an organisation Triathlon England is in the process of significant growth and development; the next few years will see a step change in modernisation.  This change will have an impact in all areas in which we operate.  We want the changes to be supported by an active membership and will give consideration to members’ views.  Our processes and procedures need to be re-examined in order to ensure full and understandable communication and the fullest participation when the Resolutions are discussed.

We have also received comments on the voting procedures used at the AGM and will be revising the voting procedures used at General Meetings to take these into account.
Additionally, the procedural objections have been accompanied by a request to reconsider some of the proposals and the Triathlon England Council (which represents the membership in our governance structure) will take time to consider these issues before Resolutions are re-submitted to the members in time to be considered at the General Meeting.

We expect that formal notice of the new General Meeting will be given to members within the next two weeks, but in the meantime please note that the anticipated date and location will be 5 April in Loughborough.

In the longer term full consideration will be given to whether changes to the Triathlon England Regulations are desirable in order to give greater clarity to our procedures; any changes will be for consideration at the AGM on 15 November 2014.

We are sorry for this further delay but we ask you to bear with us as we work to make sure that good communication will be at the centre of what we do.  If you have queries or comments in relation to these matters, please direct them to Anna Moss in the first instance at annamoss@triathlonengland.org or by phone on 01509 226 184
