Double Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee has been appointed to the board of the British Olympic Foundation, the charitable arm of the British Olympic Association (BOA).

A member of both the International Olympic Committee and European Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commissions, Brownlee brings an in-depth knowledge of the Olympic Movement and the broader sporting landscape, and will provide an athlete perspective to the Foundation.

He also brings a wealth of experience from within the charity sector as one of the co-founders of the Brownlee Foundation, an organisation aiming to inspire children from all backgrounds to enjoy and benefit from sport.

The British Olympic Foundation is responsible for the development and promotion of the Olympic Movement in the UK. The foundation aims to create learning opportunities for young people through sport, encouraging personal development, fair play and personal excellence with a range of initiatives including the award-winning Get Set programme.

Brownlee will join the board as the Foundation begins its latest drive to improve and support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of young people across the nation.

Brownlee will serve a four-year term, replacing outgoing board member and Olympian Richard Leman whose own term came to an end this month.

Alistair Brownlee said: “It is an honour to be appointed a trustee of the British Olympic Foundation. The inspirational effect of the Olympic Movement and the values embodied by Olympism changed my life.

"The BOF has the privileged and important role of promoting these values to the young people throughout the United Kingdom. I’m very excited to work with BOF to fulfil these aims, carry on the work I’ve already been doing with the Brownlee Foundation and provide more opportunities for young people to be active.”

David Ross, Chair of the British Olympic Foundation, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alistair to the British Olympic Foundation Board. As a double Olympic gold medallist, he brings with him a demonstrable passion for the Olympic Movement and first-hand experience of the inspirational power of the Games.

"The Foundation will benefit enormously from his insight of high-performance sport, as well as grassroots participation programmes through his charitable endeavours.”
