Athletes spring into action for the World Triathlon Winter Championships

Taking place in Andorra, this weekend sees the World Triathlon Winter Championships bring together over 200 athletes in the run, mountain bike, cross-country ski format of the sport.

British athletes Gareth Griffin and Alex Rhodes will be racing in the Pyrenees in the elite men’s event on Saturday 20 March against athletes from a mix of different nations battling it out to be crowned the world champion.

This is the 23rd edition of these championships and athletes will compete across an 8km snow run, 14km mountain bike on snow and a 12km cross-country ski near the town of Sant Julià de Lòria in the Andorran Naturlandia adventure park.

This is the first time that the principality has hosted the World Triathlon Winter Championships and they will take place in the country’s only cross-country ski resort, La Rabassa, sitting close to 2,000m above sea level and offering views around the Pyrenees.

The championships will be available to watch on TriathlonLIVE.tv on Saturday morning, with the elite men starting at 7:30am (GMT) and the elite women starting at 8:10am (GMT).
