British Mixed Relay Team wins World Bronze

Great Britain’s Mixed Relay team won bronze at the ITU World Championships on the Gold Coast. The team, which comprises of Junior and U23 athletes initially finished fourth but was upgraded to bronze after the New Zealand team was disqualified.

A photo finish between France and New Zealand awarded gold to France, Leo Bergere bringing his team home. However, the German team, which finished third, won a protest against the New Zealand quartet. They were judged to have cut a corner and therefor stepped off the course running from the swim to the bike during one of the legs.

The British team comprised of Olivia Mathias, Dan Slater, Sophie Coldwell and Matt Willis and completed an all-European podium sweep ahead of Portugal and Australia.

Mixed U23-Junior Relay; 250m swim, 7km bike, 1500m run:
1. France, 1:20:28       
2. Germany, 1:20:49   
3. Great Britain, 1:21:26
