British Triathlon has announced both dates and venues for next year’s British Championships, Home Nations Championships and Age Group Qualifiers.
The British Championships alongside Home Nation Championships give triathletes the chance to compete for British and national titles across the various distances and disciplines within swim, bike run.
The British Championship season kicks off in March with the British Standard Distance Duathlon Championships at Oulton Park on Sunday 24 March.
June sees a return to the traditional swim, bike, run format and the first triathlon championships of the season, as Windsor Castle is the backdrop for the British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships on Sunday 9 June. Later that month Cholmondeley Castle in Chesire plays host to the British Relay Championships on Saturday 22 June.
Eastbourne is the next stop on the British Championship calendar as the British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships take place on Sunday 14 July. That comes a day after the first paratriathlon event of the year as the Arctic One Tri and Para Tri Festival hosts the British Paratriathlon Championships on Saturday 13 July. The following weekend sees the Sleep When You’re Dead Triathlon hosts the British Aquathlon Championships in Wales.
Championship racing then returns on 14-15 September as British Triathlon hosts its Grand Final Weekend. Alongside the Grand Final of the British Triathlon Super Series, the British Sprint Triathlon Championships will also take place. This race also acts as an Age-Group Qualifier for the 2025 European Sprint Triathlon Championships.
The British Championship season goes full circle and comes to an end with a return to Oulton Park for the British Paraduathlon Championships on Sunday 6 October.
There are also opportunities to become national champion in various disciplines and distances within each Home Nation. Triathlon Scotland will announce the Scottish National Championships in due course.
The 2024 Age Group calendar includes 27 qualifying events for the Age-Group European and World Championships that will take place in 2025. Races will take place at venues and events across Britain, allowing for a wide range of different racing opportunities including sea, river, lake, and reservoir swims as well as open and closed bike courses. Next year’s calendar includes seven draft legal events.
Over 3000 athletes represented Great Britain’s Age Group team in 2023 at events across the world with medals being won across all age groups and disciplines.
Where possible, multiple qualifying events have been selected for each championship to make events accessible and provide members with the greatest opportunity to qualify.
Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO, said of the announcement: “It’s really exciting when the events calendar is announced, it always gives a real buzz and a sense of anticipation for the new season. Next year we have some fantastic venues for our members to race at, offering them the chance to experience so many different types of racing.
“The chance to become British, Scottish, Welsh or English Champion as well as qualify for the British Age-Group Team is one we know our members love and we wouldn’t be able to give them these opportunities without the event organisers. I want to give them a huge thanks for the hard work they put into making these events happen, and I wish everyone racing next year the best of luck.”
To qualify to represent the GB Age-Group Team, you must be a British Triathlon Home Nation Core or Ultimate member and register your intent to qualify by 17:00 on the Friday before the qualifying race and by paying the registration fee of £13.50.
