GO TRI Local gets underway this weekend

Aimed at supporting new people into swim, bike, run, GO TRI Local provides regular opportunities for newcomers to take part close to home.

This weekend sees the initiative kick off in Cambridge with GO TRI Local Milton Country Park where participants will take part in a duathlon. GO TRI Local encourages the whole family to come together and get involved, with the weekend’s event offering different distances for participants aged 8-14 and those 15 and over.

Participants aged between 8-14 years will run 1km, cycle 2.5km before completing a final 500m run, with participants 15 years and over completing a 1.5km run, 4.25km cycle and a final 1km run.

GO TRI Local gives those involved the opportunity to complete the same distance at the same venue on a regular basis, helping them to track their progress and build their confidence in multisport in a familiar setting.

The focus is on allowing participants to give multisport a go in a fun, non-competitive environment that is specifically tailored to the first-timer. In addition to the programme in Cambridge, GO TRI Local pilots will also be taking place in Leicestershire and Hertfordshire.

GO TRI is British Triathlon’s introductory programme to help make the sport accessible to all and GO TRI Local is the latest offering to support people in taking their first steps into the sport.

Jenny Vincent, Head of Participation at British Triathlon, said: “GO TRI has successfully introduced thousands of people to swim, bike, run over the years and we’re really excited to pilot GO TRI Local as we seek to help introduce even more people to the sport.

“By offering regular opportunities for participants to take part in the heart of the community, GO TRI Local will help them to develop their skills and confidence in a setting they feel comfortable in.”

Organiser of GO TRI Local Milton Country Park, Beth Holland, said: “Cambridge Sports Lakes Trust are thrilled to be partnered with British Triathlon for a season of new, monthly entry-level events. These fun, friendly, non-competitive duathlons are a great introduction to the sport and perfect for encouraging people to try new things alongside the benefits of getting outdoors and active.

“Our first event will be a run/cycle/run with two distances: 1 km run/2.5 km cycle/500 m run (Juniors 8-14 years old); and 1.5 km run/4.25 km cycle/1 km run for adults (15+ years old). The course is completely off-road and all within the attractive setting of Milton Country Park.”

The second of the pilots gets underway on the evening of Wednesday 4 November at Mallory Park in Leicestershire where participants will run-bike-run their way around the flat, oval circuit. You can find GO TRI Local Milton Country Park and GO TRI Local Mallory Park, plus further GO TRI opportunities on the activities search below.
