Goldrush for Great Britain at Multisport World Championships

Published:

Canada plays home to the ITU Multisport World Championships this week, with Great Britain having picked up 38 World Duathlon medals so far.

The opening weekend of the ITU Multisport World Championships certainly didn’t disappoint. With five days and three events still to go, the Great Britain Age-Group and Elite teams have made an impressive start, having collated 38 medals to date.

Past champion Emma Pallant once again returned to the field, picking up bronze in the elite women's race, while Mark Buckingham was awarded the same honours in the elite men's event following a fantastic solo bike effort. Britain experienced further success in the U23 races, with Richard Allen dipping ahead of Spaniard, Javier Martin Morales to take the title, whilst Georgina Schwiening picked up silver for the women. Great Britain’s second gold medal went to Cameron Richardson for a top performance in the junior men's race.

The Great Britain Age-Group Team began their medal campaigns in earnest, bringing home a 20-strong collection between them over the sprint distance. Mick Anglim (M70-74) narrowly missed out on being part of the gold rush, adding silver to his growing collection, whilst Carl Avery (M30-34) secured the win in his age-group.

The ITU Standard Distance Duathlon World Championships took place on Monday and brought with them a second batch of success. The unstoppable Gill Fullen (W50-54) successfully defended her title, as did Lee Piercy (M40-44). Full British results can be found below.
