Pallant Starts the Season with Silver in South Africa

IRONMAN has kicked off the new decade in exhilarating fashion as Emma Pallant claimed a third consecutive IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa silver medal.

Emma Pallant returns from Buffalo City with a well-fought silver medal after a podium battle with Flora Duffy (BER) and Jade Nicole (RSA).

Pallant finished in a time of 04:36:08, just two minutes behind victor, Duffy. After recording a 00:30:01 swim, Pallant left the first transition in 5th place and had to push hard on the bike. Her determination shone through as Pallant clocked the fastest bike leg of the race (02:33:01), around ten minutes faster than eventual winner, Duffy.

The final discipline set the stage for a battle between podium positions, with Pallant leading the run and both Jade Nicole (RSA) and Flora Duffy on the chase. Pallant remained composed and finished more than five minutes ahead of South Africa’s Jade Nicole.

One British athlete stood out in an age group category heavily populated by South African athletes. David Thorold (M50-54) raced hard to cross the line in 5th place, with a time of 05:19:01.

IRONMAN 70.3 will return on 7th February. Adam Bowden, Philip Graves, David McNamee and Morgan Davies are all set to feature on the start list for Dubai. This event will also mark the return to the sport of two-time ITU world champion, Helen Jenkins.
