Peanut butter just got a whole lot better

To celebrate the launch of their new peanut butter made with hi-oleic peanuts, British Triathlon’s Official Supplier, Whole Earth, are offering the chance for one lucky Home Nations member to win a bumper supply of 12 jars of the new peanut butter.

Hi-oleic? What does that mean?

It basically means the peanuts have a higher than usual level of monounsaturated fats, which is comparable to olive oil and avocados.

We asked Kevin Currell, Performance Nutritionist, to help explain the science behind the importance of good fats:

“The cells in your body are essentially made up of a wall that sits around them. Protein and fat are part of that wall and those molecules are the things that allow your cells to communicate with the rest of the body. The more good fats you eat, the more good fats are incorporated into the cell walls, which means that cell can communicate more effectively with the rest of the body, keeping you healthy.”

“Every time you eat some food, it changes the bio-chemistry of your body and you want to be able to take advantage of those times it changes your body to keep you healthy, for example, we know that eating food quickly after training gives you a better chance of not getting injured and not getting ill.”

As well as having good fats, peanut butter is a good source of protein. “Protein is almost the start of any athlete’s diet whether you are a triathlete or trying to put on muscle mass and be a rugby player, because muscle is protein, and you need protein intake at regular intervals throughout the day to allow that muscle to recover and regenerate from the training that you do”. Other protein-rich foods include meat, fish, milk, dairy, whole nuts and seeds.

So, whether as a snack straight after training, as part of a meal or treat, there’s more reasons to be enjoying Whole Earth’s hi-oleic peanut butter.

We're giving you the chance to win the prize of 12 jars of Whole Earth’s new hi-oleic peanut butter.

Whole Earth have made peanut butter better, so to win we want to know what peanut butter makes better, from crumpets to curries. All you have to do is tweet @BritTri with the hashtag #FeelingWonderfuel telling us what peanut butter makes better.
