Over 800 triathletes from the Great Britain Age-Group Team will be heading to Romania to take part in the European Multisport Championships from 29 June – 7 July.
The city of Targu Mures and the wider Mures County will play host to the ETU Multisport European Championships, where participants from across Europe will come together to represent their nations.
The Championships will be a showcase of multisport activity, with duathlon, aquathlon and aquabike, as well as cross triathlon, cross duathlon and middle-distance triathlon all taking centre stage throughout the week.
Competition will start on Saturday 29 June with the Cross Triathlon Championships and culminate on Sunday 7 July with the Aquabike Championships and Closing Ceremony.
Before all the action kicks off, athletes will form the Parade of Nations from the Palace of Culture to Targu Mures Medieval Castle for the Opening Ceremony. This festival of multisport will see age-group participants compete under their national flag for the chance to be crowned European Champion.
Targu Mures is Romania’s 16th largest city and found in northern-central Romania, approximately 300km from Bucharest. Set in the historical region of Transylvania, the city’s name translates directly as ‘Market on the Mures [River]’ due to its location in the Mures River valley. Competition will take place in the city centre and the surrounding region, including the forests of Lake Ursu and the Ungheni Motor Ring.
The Great Britain Age-Group Team offers all Home Nation (Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland and Welsh Triathlon) members with a unique opportunity to represent Great Britain at the International or European level in triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, winter triathlon and cross triathlon.
Linda Haywood, British Triathlon Head of Age-Group said, “Age group competition provides a unique opportunity for British athletes to represent Great Britain competitively against the top European and International age-groupers. We’re really proud of our Age-Group Team and are backing them all the way to have a great time and achieve their goals in Targu.”
