TV Personality to swap the headline for the start line

Sports presenter David Garrido has taken the first steps towards improving his health and fitness by joining Renegade Triathlon and experiencing the swim, bike and run challenge.

Garrido, who is most well-known as a host of Sky Sports News, will join the thousands of people taking up the sport for the first time this year as he embarks on his training journey in 2020.

The former BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat sports presenter and reporter has joined Renegade Triathlon to gain the training support and advice from coaches and fellow triathletes; with regular club training sessions in the three disciplines giving his training variety and helping to keep him motivated.

With a young family and a 40th birthday just around the corner, Garrido is looking forward to training alongside dedicated triathletes and balancing his training in and around working at Sky and helping to raise his baby son.

Garrido will be sharing his progress and experiences as he starts his triathlon journey on his social media channels: Twitter - @SkySportsDavid; Instagram - @skysportsdavid.

Speaking about getting into the sport, Garrido said: “I’m thrilled to take on this challenge. It’s been at the back of my mind for a few years, but with 2020 being an Olympic and Paralympic year there’ll be plenty of inspiration and motivation.

“Having reported on a variety of sports over the years, I’m really looking forward to trying something new and getting out there.

“British Triathlon and Renegade Tri have shown me great support as I take baby steps into the sport. Hopefully I can make good progress over the next few months as we head towards the summer.”
