It may still be January, but the 2018 international season got under way this weekend in Romania and South Africa. It will soon be time to get your triathlon fix again after the winter break without the elites competing on our TVs and Live Streams, and the season has started with medals for British athletes already.

Cheile Gradistei ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships

Saturday saw GB Age-Group athletes take to the snow of Romania for the Cheile Gradistei ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships. They displayed their class, coming home with 4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The winter triathlon consisted of a 7.5km run, 13.5km bike followed by 10km country ski. IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa

Sunday’s IRONMAN 70.3 South Africa saw two British women in the top four. Emma Pallant placed second with the quickest half marathlon in the Elite Women’s race with 1:23:51. She closed the gap to a few seconds on the leader, Jeanni Seymour (USA), but fell just short of securing the win having missed some training following a crash six weeks ago.

Susie Cheetham, who was second to Jodie Swallow twelve months ago, had a strong all-round performance to secure fourth place.
