Durham Triathlon Club wins regional award

Published:

One of the North East's longest running triathlon clubs was awarded Club of the Year at the County Durham Sports Awards.

Durham Triathlon Club were awarded Club of the Year at the Sport and Physical Activity Awards hosted by County Durham Sport.

The club has been succesfully developing and supporting triathletes for over 20 years. They won the award due to their inclusive approach to sport with members ranging in age from 5 to 75 years old. The club work very closely with local swim, athletics and cycling clubs so that everyone has a chance to develop their triathlon and multisport skills.

Club Chair, Lindsay Rogers said

"I believe this award is down to the dedication of all our unpaid coaches and helpers who give so much time supporting our triathletes from standing on rainlashed and windswept roads timing 10 mile bike time trials, to improving swim technique and being that friendly face cheering you on at the mid point of a race when you are starting to suffer."

Members range from TriStar Juniors, GO TRI novices, to GB age group and elite status triathletes. Everyone is given the opportunity to improve and encouraged to push themselves to achieve more. Alongside their range of training sessions the club also organise two very popular events for all of the regional triathletes to enjoy; the City of Durham Duathlon and the Weardale Triathlon.
