Pendle clubs sets up open water swimming from Sport England funding

Pendle Triathlon Club has set up weekly open water swimming on a local reservoir working with the Local sailing club and canals and river trusts at Burwain Reservoir.

This reservoir is owned by the Canal and Rivers Trust and is a feeder reservoir for the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

The club has been enabled to set up the open water swimming session with a grant from Sport England Small Grants pot. They were awarded £3379 for the project. With the grant the club has been able to buy three Sit On Top Fishing Kayak from BlueFin and other safety equipment including Chillswim tow floats which every swimmer must wear when in the water.

The temperature of the water is taken on a weekly basis and the swim will only go ahead if the water temperature is above 11⁰C. The club has also arranged with the Canal and Rivers Trust to get the water tested on a weekly basis.

If you have a patch of water that is available to swim in and would like to know more please contact your Regional Manager Lucy Cowgill for support to do this.
