A Great Evening with the Sussex Clubs

Published:

On Thursday 11th June, all affiliated Sussex clubs were invited to get together at the Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill.

The Triathlon England South East Committee aims to keep up to date with the current good stories and issues facing the affiliated clubs in the region. As a result, the committee are hosting a club evening in each of the three counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

On Thursday 11th June, the affiliated Sussex clubs got together at the Triangle Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill. The evening provided the clubs an opportunity to meet their Regional Chairman, Matt Honey, their Sussex County Representative, Dick Donovan and to catch up with the Regional Manager, Jenny Vincent.

There was a really positive turn out from the clubs and not only did they enjoy the opportuntiy to feedback to the committee and Regional Manager about things that are working well for them and issues they face, the evening also provided a fantastic opprotuntiy for the clubs to meet one another and socialise together.

Two of the most popular discussions were around the area of coach education and officiating. Many of the clubs highlighted a demand for the development and upskilling of additional coaches to meet the increase of membership that most fo the clubs are facing.

Regional Manager, Jenny Vincent provided an update to say that the next round of coach education courses will take place between September 2015 and April 2016. These new course dates will be released in July, when Jenny will send out an email to all clubs. Jenny advised the clubs to have a think about who they may like to put forward for coaching qualifications and start to develop an action plan to get these interested coaches on to courses.

The regional committee are trying increase the number of qualified officials (LTO and RTO), this in order to cater for the growing number of events in the South East. There is an article about why someone may consider an officials course on the regional website, see http://www.triathlonengland.org/news/officials_plea_5226

The Regional Chairman suggested that each club try to recruit and train one official in 2015.If your club has someone interested in trianing as an ofifical email jennyvincent@triathlonengland.org

Jason Rae, from Bognor Triathlon and Endurance Sports Club commented "Thanks for the meeting last night it was really good to meet other tri clubs and gave me a bit more confidence about our event in August."

The Surrey and Kent Club evenings will also take place in 2015. Look out for further announcements on social media by liking Triathlon England: South East Region on Facebook or following @TriEngSouthEast on Twitter.
