The South East region is fortunate to have a large number of Triathlon and multisport clubs on our doorstep. Consisting of varying sizes, age groups and level of commitment, you’re surely not going to be far away from a club that fits your needs & work/life (training) balance.

To shine light on what (& who) is out there, a regular feature for 2016 will be a brief Biography of a local club.

Whether it’s useful for initiating you to search out your first triathlon club, highlighting some great work by volunteers or just expanding your understanding of the triathlon community in the South East, we hope you will find these bio’s informative and interesting to read.

To kick things off we highlight the junior section of Phoenix Triathlon Club, based in Guildford, Surrey. Attached to the senior club of the same name, the junior section has been running since 2014 and currently has 13 members.

Sessions are run by a team of 3 BTF qualified coaches each Saturday between 12:30-2:30pm. They welcome all abilities within the 8-12 y/o age group, the only requirements being that they must have a bike in good working order with a helmet, and be able to swim confidently in deep water for 50 metres.

What they say about the club,

“We are a young club looking to double in size in 2016!

Within our 2 hour session at the Surrey Sports Park, we look to cover specific triathlon skills, as well as improving the individual disciplines through some skill, drill and endurance work. Currently we accept 8-12 year olds but our intention is to extend the upper age limit each year so our athletes stay with us until they are old enough to start training with the senior club.”

The club also runs their own Aquathlon series which this year will run between May & August.
