Introducing the Southwest 2024 Team Relay Challenge

Published:

The Southwest Regional Committee are very pleased to announce that after several years break there will be a Race Series held in the region this year - the 2024 Team Relay Challenge.

The Team Relay Challenge aims to encourage athletes of all abilities to participate in our sport. In this way those taking part get to experience the enjoyment, excitement, and camaraderie of racing as part of a team.

The Challenge is open to all athletes based in the Southwest who are Triathlon England members. Participants are invited to form teams across three age groups and then choose to enter events in one of two different relay formats.

These two relay formats are: Olympic Team Relay and Individual Team Relay. An Olympic relay team consists of four athletes, each of whom completes all three disciplines of swim, bike and run. An Individual relay team consists of three athletes, each of whom completes one of the three disciplines of swim, bike or run. The three age groups are: Youth, Junior and Senior.

Teams enter two or more triathlon events hosted in the Southwest region; events that provide a team relay opportunity in the appropriate format and for the right age group.

Points will be awarded to each team based on their overall finishing position for each event they entered, and the results of the Challenge will be announced at the Southwest AGM in October.

Trophies will be awarded to the winners in each age group for each team relay format as follows:

  • Olympic Team Relay: Mixed
  • Olympic Team Relay: Open
  • Olympic team Relay: Female
  • Individual Team Relay

There are some rules governing the Team Relay Challenge, for instance, all teams must register with the Regional Committee, and the team is responsible for informing the Committee of the SW triathlon events they have entered (via sw.secretary@triathlonengland.org).
