South West Regional Academy Update

Published:

The South West Regional Academy has had another successful winter of training. 14 youth and junior athletes and 4 paratriathletes have been meeting about once a month throughout the winter for training weekends

The group makes use of the facilities and quiet roads around Burnham-on-sea (which also has Britain’s shortest pier) hone their triathlon skills in preparation for the forthcoming triathlon season aiming for the British Youth and Junior Superseries races as well as National and International paratriathlon events.  The academy is very grateful to both the Burnham-on-sea swim and sports academy and the Laburnham House Hotel for their support without which the weekends would become a whole lot more difficult to put on.  Whilst the weekends have their fair share of physical training there is also a big emphasis on personal development to allow performance to be maximised through an understanding of mental skills for high performance, nutrition and recovery around a great group of friends.  The academy coaching team is 6 strong and as well as broad knowledge, understanding and experience in triathlon the team’s experience includes attending Olympic games with British hockey, strength and conditioning with the English Cricket Board and professional womens cycling.  This means the athletes can be sure their future in the sport is well looked after.
