Triumphant Triathletes!

Inspired by Team GB’s Olympic successes 200 athletes entered Events Logic’s Standard and Sprint Triathlons on Sunday August 5th.

The first event of the day was the Standard distance event, where athletes completed a 1500swim, 41km bike ride and a 10km run. Fortunately, some early wet weather conditions calmed to provide ideal conditions for the swim and bike sections.

After a strong lake swim John Wood was in the lead in the men’s race and Emilie Verroken in the women’s race. Next, the bike section consisted of a forty-one km route through scenic country lanes. A brave ride saw Michel Milstead moving into the lead at the end of the bike section in the men’s race and Emilie maintained the lead in the women’s race.

The Standard distance triathlon concluded with a well paced 10km run, despite some very muddy and slippery conditions on the cross country route.  Here Michel Milstead posted a fast time to come through and win the men’s race in a total time of 02:02:20, breaking the fastest 1 mile lap record by over 1 minute. Emilie Verroken was the first women’s finisher in an impressive 02:18:57.

The second event of the day was a Sprint Triathlon.  Here athletes completed a 750m swim, a 20.5km bike ride and a 5km run.  Tara Wood was the winner of the women’s race in a nifty 01:14:39 and Deon Coetzee was the winner of the men’s race in a swift 01:03:21.

Events Logic also presented prizes for the fastest run lap of the course and fastest 80m sprint to the finishing line.  Michael Milstead took the prize for the fastest lap at 5 minutes and 35 seconds. What an achievement at the end of such a challenging event!
