Staffs Women Line Up for a New Year Swim, Cycle and Run Challenge

British Triathlon has launched a ‘New Year, New You’ programme with a difference

British Triathlon has launched a ‘New Year, New You’ programme with a difference for women in Staffordshire who want to get in shape or just give themselves a bit of a challenge.

The governing body for triathlon has teamed up with a leisure centre in Lichfield to offer special women only training sessions in swimming, cycling and running.

Friary Grange Leisure Centre will host the seven-week programme from the 27th January, which will be run by specially trained instructors.

Helen Barklam, from British Triathlon, said: “These one hour weekly sessions are a great opportunity for women to really focus on themselves and their health with properly trained and supportive coaches. You don’t even need a bike, as the cycling sessions will be run using the spin bikes in the centre.

“Mixing different activities like swimming, running and cycling is a great way to get in shape as the different sports challenge different parts of your body. We are hoping that the fact that these are women only sessions will help to encourage women to get involved in the different activities that make up triathlon in a none intimidating and friendly environment.

“There is a mini GO-TRI triathlon in March for those who would like to put what they have learned to the test. But, others may just want to use it as a kick start to the new year,” she added.

The seven-week programme is just £10 and is part of British Triathlon’s GO-TRI programme, helping to increase the number of people taking part in swimming, cycling and running. Those who are interested can register here:
