Women's Beginner Tri Training Success

Published:

39 women descended on Lichfield's Friary Grange Leisure Centre for the first in seven sessions

The capacity for the centre's first ever beginner triathlon training sessions with British Triathlon was doubled after a huge demand by ladies in and around the Staffordshire city.

Half of the group took part in cycle training on Watt bikes and half the women were in the pool honing their swimming skills.

The seven sessions will aim to help the ladies take their swimming, cycling and running skills to the next level and train up those who are keen for a mini GO-TRI triathlon on the 19th March at Friary Grange.

Helen Barklam from British Triathlon said: "The demand for places on these sessions was absolutely huge. I was inundated with emails from ladies who were disappointed they had missed out on the first 20 slots.

"We worked with Friary Grange to double the capacity so we didn't let anyone down. Within days the second lot of 20 places were nearly full. It was an amazing response!

"It was great to launch the sessions on the same day that the This Girl Can campaign was relaunched and we were delighted to be able to do our bit to help women get involved in our sport and have some great fun doing it," she added.
