Guide Training Day for Visually Impaired Athletes a HUGE Success

Published:

Last month 16 Triathletes across Yorkshire headed to York Sports Village to learn how to guide a visually impaired athlete.

We now have 16 newly trained guides.  If you are or you know someone who it visually impaired and wants to give triathlon ago, then we have a guide that can help you.  Why not try a GO TRI? www.gotri.org

After being approached by local VI athlete Christopher Vaughan to encourage more people to GUIDE, the Yorkshire Region decided to pilot a training day as an introduction to guiding.

The event was organised to make people aware about the abilities of visually impaired and blind individuals and to encourage more people to come forward and support Visually Impaired Paratriathletes.

Thom commented: “I really enjoyed the day on Saturday and hope to become more involved with guiding in the future.  The day was very informative and it was good to speak to Chris and Andy to learn about their experience of training towards and competing in events.”

After the success of this event the Yorkshire Region will look to host another.
