Over 70 locals attend GO TRI Something New Novice Training Day in Leeds

Published:

The training day was aimed primarily at first timers and novices who had entered or intended to enter the beginner friendly GO TRI on Saturday 10 June.

The programme was led by British Triathlon qualified coaches, who were supported by a team of newly qualified Community Triathlon Activators who had attended free courses across Leeds.

"I was so excited to find the training day, I have wanted to try triathlon for a while but it seemed far too daunting and I was worried about not having a clue. This was just what I needed to help me make the jump to entering.

The day consisted of four groups of up to 10 participants, each group rotating so that each participant covered a led run around the GO TRI run course, a ride around the GO TRI cycle course, transition practice and open water swimming to begin acclimatising to the temperature as well as practive deep water starts, sighting and swimming in a group.

Commenting on the session, one participant said "The open water swimming was my favourite. An absolute revelation. This was the section I was most nervous about but I loved it. So much so I'm hoping to join Leeds and Bradford Triathlon Club in order to do more of it. All the trainers were really helpful and answered any questions I had. They were so friendly and really put everyone at ease. Would definitely recommend it"

Another member of the group said "[The session] emphasised how important it is to practice [transitions] as there are lots of things that are easy to overlook that I realised I had to think about when we tried going through everything. Also open water swimming - it was a bit of a shock to me how different it was to the pool, so although it was the hardest session it was so valuable to prepare for the GO TRI in a few weeks."

A third participant, who was nervous about taking on the GO TRI, commented "I was so excited to find the training day, I have wanted to try triathlon for a while but it seemed far too daunting and I was worried about not having a clue. This was just what I needed to help me make the jump to entering. Now I have had the training I feel equipped and ready for the event. I loved the day, I had high hopes but it exceeded my expectations. All of the staff were amazing, patient and encouraging and I can't thank you enough."
