Trio of Leeds mums in triathlon challenge

Published:

Three Leeds mums have got fit and shed stones after being inspired by the Brownlee brothers to take on a series of triathlons. Lucy Lord, Holly Wainwright and Hannah Hercules took part in their biggest challenge yet at the weekend – The Brownlee Tri at Harewood House.

The trios, who have eight children between them, had never done any fitness feats before they decided to TRI and follow in the footsteps of Olympians Alistair and Jonny. Their efforts have helped two of the team slim down, with Lucy losing over seven stones and Holly shedding six stones. Lucy, from Halton, said: “We have drawn massive inspiration from the Brownlee brothers and that’s what’s given us the motivation to do the triathlons. “It’s just something that is a real test, especially as we’ve got eight children between us.

“I’ve lost seven-and-a-half stones in the past year. This has given me a goal and helped me maintain the weight loss.” The 30-year-old maternity research assistant and mum-of-three said they had started with shorter distance events and found those organised by GO TRI were accessible for beginners.

She added that they had great support from their families: “We are all married to very patient long-suffering triathlon widows.”

Now they are aiming to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. “The reason we’ve come to do this triathlon is because it’s given us the opportunity to raise money for Macmillan. It’s a charity close to our hearts,” she added. The team want to raise £600 – donate via: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/trihard2016.
