YORKSHIRE REGION INTER-CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Published:

Yorkshire Region Triathlon Committee have partnered with NYP Triathlon Club to host the inaugural Yorkshire Region Inter-Club Championship (ICC) race at the Ripon Triathlon to be held on 30th June at Ripon Race Course.

The ICC will be an opportunity for all Yorkshire-based clubs to flex their collective triathlon muscles and compete for the title of Yorkshire Triathlon Club Champion.  It is important to note that this race is not additional to the calendar but will form part of the Ripon Triathlon Olympic distance, a race which is well established in the Yorkshire triathlon calendar.  Triathletes will complete the race as an individual and their finishing position will contribute toward a club score to determine the outcome of the ICC.  It is a race within a race!

To conclude Race Day, there will be a presentation ceremony in the new designated club area and a trophy will be awarded to the winning club.  Make sure your club brings their banners and gazebos to give this area a real "festival" feel!

Race Entry

Entry to the Inter-Club Championship (ICC) is automatic when entering the Ripon Triathlon - triathletes can opt by checking the box due race entry.

To assist with ICC entry, Yorkshire Region Triathlon Committee ask that all competitors enter their club name in the same format, for example, using "NYP Triathlon Club" and not "NYP".  Club captains will need to submit a full list of their athletes ahead of the race to ensure that the scoring system recognises all competitors against the correct club.

Race scoring

The ICC will utilise a Cross-Country style points system where the lowest scoring club wins.  Points will be allocated according to finishing position - 1st place = 1 point; 2nd place = 2 points…. 40th place = 40 points and so forth.  Points will be allocated across five age groups and two gender groups with a maximum of 26 scoring triathletes:

  • U20 - 2 male and 2 female triathletes
  • Aged 20-39 - 3 male and 3 female triathletes
  • Aged 40-49 - 3 male and 3 female triathletes
  • Aged 50-59 - 3 male and 3 female triathletes
  • Aged 60+ - 2 male and 2 female triathletes

A high score will be attributed to absent triathletes in each age/gender group - absentee places are allocated the first available empty finisher number. This will ensure that a fair score is added to positions that are not filled by competitors. This will hopefully encourage clubs to fill spots to ensure that the lowest possible score can be gained.

Placings/scores are not "shifted" this should encourage all 4th, 5th etc. placing club triathletes to finish fast and try to knock other triathletes down the finishing positions.

In the event of a tied team score, the club whose last scoring triathlete finished nearest to first place shall determine the result.

A "Perpetual" trophy will be presented to the ICC winning club which is returned each year in time for the next race.An additional smaller trophy will accompany the perpetual trophy that the club can keep.
