2017 East Region Relays at the Bedford Team Relays.

Published:

Great weather for this growing fun team event.

A big thank you to Go Beyond Events for hosting the East Region Relays as part of Bedford Team Relays.

The event takes the format of teams of three each completing a broken sprint distance triathlon, with each team member completing the 750m swim course, before each completing the 20km bike course and then finishing with each team member completing the 5km run course.

With camping and transitions being onsite teams are able to have a very convenient and social event with many of the teams also availing themselves of the facilities and entertainments offered by Box End Park.

The 2017 edition of the race took place in great weather on Sunday 28th May with fourteen of the East Region's Club's amonst the seventeen who between then fielded sixty six teams.  The largest contingent of teams being the eleven from Freedom Tri.

The fastest team on the day were the all male Green Machines of Milton Keynes based GreenLight PT who completed the 3x750m swim, 3x20km bike and 3x5km run in 3h08m52s.  Fastest East region team was the male Tri Sport Epping 1 team who were second in 3h14m21s.  Fastest mixed team was that from Bedford Harriers.  Fastest women only team were GreenLight PT's Green Queens (3h43m44s) and the fastest all female East Regio team being Freedom Tri's One Down team who completed in 3h54m27s.

The Relays play a key part in the East Region Club League with clubs earning points towards that league from their three highest points scoring teams. Freedom Tri took top honours there closely followed by Cambridge Tri and Tri Sport Epping.

With five races in the 2017 league complete Meridian hold onto top spot with Cambridge moving into 2nd and Tri-Anglia moving into 3rd. With league fixtures happening weekly this is likely to soon change.

Thank you to all individuals, teams and clubs that made this a fun, exciting, friendly event with a real buzz.

Thank you to the venue Box End Park, Teach Africa for the Tea and Cake tent, Northampton Canoe and Kayak Club for their on-the-water safety cover, the Go Beyond team for organising and their exemplary team of marshals.
