Accenture Tri Club crowned Accenture Mixed Team Challenge Canary Wharf Champions

Accenture Tri Club celebrated victory in the final event of the Accenture Mixed Team Challenge last night (Wednesday 5 September) as Canary Wharf hosted an exclusive triathlon mixed relay in the heart of the city.

Fans lined the course as residents and tennants of Canary Wharf came out in force to support some of the city’s leading professionals who took advantage of the opportunity to race the elite mixed relay format ahead of its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Accenture Tri Club who finished in 1:16:47 were delighted with the win as Team Captain Nick Flower commented: "It was nice coming back on the return leg of the swim with all the people who had cleared out of the office at 5 o’clock lining the bank of the dockland, so there was some pretty interesting encouragement, it was all part of the atmosphere."

In second place was Morgan Stanley - Team A, said: "you got to see your teammates four times on the run, you could constantly cheer each other on”

“it was really nice that some of our work colleagues were able to come out and support, it was a really awesome event”

In third place was Team Triathlon Trust, commented: "It’s my first ever experience competing in the Mixed Team Relay and at first I was nervous, but then I got here and was very excited.” - Mia, second female in the relay

“I think that having relays like this give an opportunity for a mixture of ages and abilities to compete with each other, and triathlon can be quite intimidating to a lot of people but we saw out there today people doing breaststroke in the water but then they were competing as part of a team and could hand over (after each leg).” - Mike Jubb, CEO of the Triathlon Trust

Andy Salmon, British Triathlon Chief Executive speaking after the racing added: "Really delighted it was a huge success, as evident by the atmosphere throughout the race and the post-race party, the smiling faces the buzz the noise and the enthusiasm, it’s just been a really great day.

It’s been truly iconic as we said it would be in the build-up. Unique in the truest sense of the word, people have had an experience they won’t have anywhere else"

The exclusive triathlon event attracted teams from many of Britain’s most well-known brands as mixed teams of four, 2 men and 2 women completed a 300m swim in Middle Dock, 5km static bike ride on Jubilee Plaza and 1.5km traffic-free run on Bank Street.
