The next generation compete for European Youth Triathlon honours in Panevezys.

Beginning today (Thursday), the second edition of the ETU Triathlon Youth European Championships Festival takes place over the next four days in Panevezys, Lithuania.

Initiated last year in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary, the event brings together the best of Europe’s Youth triathletes, who will compete over a semi-final / final format over two days, while also competing in the Mixed Relay format on Sunday. As well as the championship itself, the event is designed to introduce Youth athletes to international competition and culture, while also incorporating development and knowledge with the inclusion of anti-doping seminars.

Athletes will race over a 500m / 11.4km (4-lap) / 3.6km (3-lap) course in the individual competition, with the Mixed Relay course comprising 250m / 5.7km / 1km. With the Mixed Relay format now part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic programme, its profile and importance will continue to grow, year-on-year.

Great Britain’s Matthew Willis took the Silver medal in the Youth Men’s race a year ago and he returns to race in Lithuania, as does Daniel Slater who was 13th in Hungary.
