Holland Ends the Season With a Bronze Medal

Vicky Holland ended the season with a bronze medal as disqualifications promoted her at the World Triathlon Cup Vina del Mar.

Holland, who was racing for just the fourth time after returning from pregnancy, was one of the first triathletes out the water but dropped down the order due to a slow transition. On the bike leg she was joined in a chase group with American duo Gwen Jorgensen and Gina Sereno, working hard to close the gap to the five strong group out in front.

On the run Holland remained inside the top-ten and originally crossed the line in seventh place. However, four triathletes in front of her, including American Katie Zaferes and Czech Republic’s Teresa Zimovjanova, who were the first two over the line, were disqualified for not following the course correctly. Those disqualifications saw Holland promoted to third behind Jorgensen (first) and Sereno (second).

In the men’s race Dan Dixon was the lead Brit finishing eighth with Sam Dickinson 12th. Dickinson was one of the leaders out of the water with Dixon in tow as they started the bike at the front of the field. After a close bike leg, that saw a large front pack develop, Dixon spent the first part of the run battling for a podium place but dropped back to cross the line in eighth, with Dickinson missing out on a place in the top-ten by just five seconds.
