Inaugural SH₂OUT – Creating Safer Venues Course is delivered at YHA Manchester

Published:

Following the exciting launch of SH₂OUT, the first Creating Safe Venues course was sold out and delivered in Manchester.

Saturday 11 February saw YHA Manchester host the inaugural SH₂OUT – Creating Safer Venues course to a great mix of open water swimmers, triathlon club volunteers, triathlon coaches, venue operators and event organisers.

The 1 day course was an engaging workshop designed to provide the attendee with the opportunity to learn more about SH₂OUT and the new British Triathlon & Royal Life Saving Society UK Partnership, whilst learning and sharing experience on water quality, water safety, course design considerations and much more.

Being able to sit alongside triathlon volunteers, event organisers, coaches and venue operators, gave us valuable insight into the questions and issues that the triathlon and lifesaving community face.

After attending the course, Jenny Vincent, National Open Water Development Manager commented:

“It was great to introduce SH₂OUT and our new strategy for open water swimming at the course today. Being able to sit alongside triathlon volunteers, event organisers, coaches and venue operators, gave us valuable insight into the questions and issues that the triathlon and lifesaving community face.

"The course was able to answer many of these queries throughout the day, as well touch upon many of the technical elements of the open water swimming environment. We were very fortunate to be hosted at a YHA Manchester, as the venue and facilities were fantastic.”

The course is example of how SH₂OUT will work to deliver one of the strategic objectives for open water swimming. The program will deliver industry guidance by providing market leading education, support and advice to the triathlon and lifesaving community.
