Routes announced for World Triathlon Para Series Swansea

Published:

Race organisers have announced the routes for World Triathlon Para Series Swansea on Saturday 22 June. The routes cover the elite racing, the Super Series and the aquathlon event for children.

This year sees the largest participation offer in the event’s history, and The Prince of Wales Dock in Swansea will once again be the hub for the event, with the start, finish, transition and event village all located in and around the dockside.

The four participation options for 8–14-year-olds will keep participants around the dock and South Quay area for their aquathlon (swim, run) activities, meaning the atmosphere from the event village and supporters will be nearby.

The Splash & Dash and Mega Splash & Dash, non-timed, fun activities to help introduce children with or without a disability to multisport, are the shortest of the options.

The timed activities for 8–14-year-olds include the TriStar 2 for 11–12-year-olds, completing a 300m swim and 1km run, and TriStar 3 for 13–14-year-olds, completing a 300m swim and 1.7km run.

The city has hosted a World Triathlon Para Series race for the past two years, incorporating elite, development and participation races into a celebration of swim, bike, run.

The elite World Triathlon Para Series racing will see the wider Swansea area play host to some exciting racing as, following the 750m swim in the dock, the athletes will head across Trafalgar Bridge and out through the Maritime Quarter on the bike.

Returning via the Swansea Museum and Sail Bridge to the event village, the 19.48km bike leg will comprise of five laps.

The run is the final discipline of the race and will see the athletes complete three laps totalling 5km. The final part of the course will see them battle it out for position along Kings Road before they reach the finish line.

British Triathlon Paratri Super Series racing provides the next generation of British athletes the chance to compete as either classified or non-classified. The non-classified option gives anyone aged 15+ with a physical or neurological impairment the chance to compete in a triathlon.

Athletes taking part in the Super Series will complete a single-lap 400m swim, a five-lap 8.8km bike and a three-lap 2.5km run, keeping them to the east of the River Tawe on the Prince of Wales dock side of the city.

All races taking place on Saturday 22 June will start and finish in the same place, giving the same finish line experience whether you’re targeting Paris or experiencing swim, bike, run for the first time.
