On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September, six of Great Britain’s U23 athletes will line up in the world championships in Pontevedra.
The Spanish city will host the World Triathlon Championship Finals, Para Championships, U23 Championships and Age-Group Championships at the weekend.
Representing Great Britain in the U23 racing will be Dan Dixon, Hamish Reilly and Sam Hart on Saturday and Jess Fullagar, Tilly Anema and Daisy Davies on Sunday. Last year’s U23 World Championships saw a double British win as Connor Bentley and Kate Waugh took the wins.
The men’s race will get underway at 13:20 BST (14:20 local time) on Saturday, with coverage live on TriathlonLIVE from 13:10 BST and updates on British Triathlon social media channels.
Reilly will compete having finished third at the 2022 world championships behind Bentley. This year has seen Reilly represent Team GB at the European Games and pick up U23 bronze and mixed team relay gold medals respectively at the Europe Triathlon Sprint and Mixed Relay Championships.
Dixon heads to Spain off the back of an 11th-place finish at 2023 World Triathlon Cup Yeongdo and having helped his French Grand Prix team, Saint Jean de Monts Vendee Triathlon, to win this year’s title.
Hart will be making his triathlon world championship debut; however, he has previous experience of world championship racing having competed in the 2021 World Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Aviles, finishing 11th in the U23 race.
The women’s race starts at 13:00 BST (14:00 local time) on Sunday, with coverage getting underway from 12:50 BST on TriathlonLIVE and updates on British Triathlon social media channels.
Fullagar finished seventh in 2022 when fellow Brit Waugh took the crown in Abu Dhabi. This year has seen the Fullagar have a string of podium finishes across individual and mixed relay race. She’s secured mixed relay silver and gold respectively at AJ Bell 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland and Europe Triathlon Relay Championships Balikesir, plus U23 silver at the same event.
Anema also competed in Balikesir, finishing fifth in the U23 race and also winning gold alongside Fullagar in the relay. She ended 2022 with bronze at Africa Triathlon Cup Dakhla and has also enjoyed two podium finishes in this year’s British Triathlon Senior Super Series.
Davis finished one place behind Fullagar at the 2022 championships in eighth and has had two top-15 races in Europe Triathlon Cups this year. She also made her senior championship debut in June when she competed at Europe Triathlon Championships Madrid.
