Great Britain’s triathletes will be in Hamburg as the World Triathlon Championship Series returns across the Super Sprint Distance this weekend.

Taking place over a 300m swim, a 7.5km bike ride a 1.75km run, this is triathlon at its shortest individual distance and fastest times with up to three races taking place in the men’s and women’s elite races before Sunday’s mixed team relay.

Alex Yee will be on the start line in the men’s elite race, looking to make it three straight wins in 2023 after claiming top sport at both World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi and Cagliari. Joining Yee in Hamburg are Connor Bentley and Barclay Izzard, who are fresh off their silver medal in the mixed team relay at the European Games in Krakow. Izzard was also part of the team that won the mixed team relay at World Championship Series Hamburg last year after coming 13th in the men’s elite race, while Bentley was in the mixed relay team back in 2021 that finished sixth. Jack Willis is also in action after competing at both World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal and Yokohama.

In the elite women’s race, Beth Potter will be looking to add to her silver medal from Hamburg in 2022 and build on her fine start to 2023 that has seen her win at World Triathlon Championship Series Montreal and Abu Dhabi. Sian Rainsley is the other Brit on the start line in the elite women’s race and like Izzard and Bentley she is coming to the event on a high after anchoring the mixed relay team to their silver medal at the European Games.

The event also acts as the mixed team relay World Championships, with British Triathletes having great success in this category recently. A team of Izzard, Bentley, Rainsley and Sophie Alden were on the podium in Karakow at the European Games just last month and a British team stood on the top step of the podium the last time the mixed team relay was contested at a World Triathlon Championship Series event, which was in Hamburg last July.

The Junior World Sprint Championships will also take place this weekend, with Solomon Okrafo-Smart, Brandon Pye and Oliver Mills all on the start line in the junior men’s race. There is also a trio of Brit’s on the start line in the junior women’s race with Bethany Cook, Olivia Logan and Isla Hedley all in action.

Great Britain’s Age-Group Team will also be competing in both Super Sprint and mixed relay with over 300 Brits on the start line.
