Loughborough University, with a rich sporting history including being recently named the world’s best sporting university, will make the short trip to Nottingham and field two extremely strong teams on 2 September.

Contesting the British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup will be two teams made up exclusively of members of the Loughborough Triathlon Performance Centre (LTPC), which has been enjoying great success over the past two years. A joint project between British Triathlon and Loughborough University, triathlon has never been stronger in the East Midlands area, aided by the University’s unique sporting eco-system, which sees a number of sports training alongside each other in truly world class facilities.

Jodie Stimpson offers the team experience as the reigning double commonwealth gold medallist.

Loughborough I

The first Loughborough team features headline names Sophie Coldwell and Jodie Stimpson. With Coldwell winning European Triathlon Championship silver in June she is undoubtedly in the form of her life, and despite recently graduating from Loughborough University will continue to train as part of the LTPC. Stimpson meanwhile is a double Commonwealth gold medallist in the individual and mixed relay events, experience that will be drawn upon by the young team.

Joining them in making up the four person mixed team are Ben Dijkstra and Chris Perham. Both men are GB internationals, with Dijkstra one of British Triathlon’s hottest young talents, having won World Triathlon Championship bronze in the junior category last summer, when aged just 17.

Loughborough II

The second Loughborough team will be headlined by James Teagle who contested both the individual elite men’s race and the mixed team relay at June’s European Triathlon Championships in Kitzbühel. About to start his final year of study at Loughborough, Teagle will be very much the man his teammates will be looking up to. Barclay Izzard and Olivia Mathias are both due to enrol at Loughborough University later this month, with both already progressing international pedigree. Mathias was fifth in the junior women’s race in Kitzbühel, whilst  Izard cracked the top 20 in the men’s equivalent. Rounding out the team is Sophie Alden who has just completed her second year at Loughborough and also possesses international experience.
